The below is the list of project that I have been a part of to date through my honours and PhD project work with the Behavioural Ecology Research Group (BERG). For more information on BERG, and my supervisor Associate Professor Anne Goldizen please go to the BERG website. I am just about to embark on a new role with Game Rangers International...more information coming soon

2012-2016- How to eat without being eaten: wildebeest trade-offs

This project formed the basis of my PhD research. The project centred on the wildebeest’s need to ‘eat without getting eaten': in other words I focused on trade-offs between foraging, antipredator and movement behaviours of wildebeest. I spent the majority of my time in 2013-2015 living and researching in the field, based in Etosha National Park, Namibia.

Data capture included information on spatial factors including habitat type, distance to cover, distance to water and forage quality and quantity to determine the vital spatial characteristics in a wildebeest’s ecosystem. The research was planned to provide information to management so that informed decisions can be made about conserving wildebeest and the ecosystems that they are integral to.

I have completed the PhD and am currently working on writing the chapters up for publication in peer-review journals

2009-2010 - Individual variation in vigilance of eastern-grey kangaroos

My honours project focused on the variation of vigilance patterns between individual female eastern grey kangaroos. Kangaroos were found to vary in the amount of time spent vigilant and in their propensity to use higher vigilance postures which are seen to afford greater range of vision but incur greater costs. I spent two weeks out of every month over a 7-month period in 2009-2010 collecting data at Sundown National Park in southern Queensland.
